It took me 3 attempts to edit this image in Lightroom because I was unhappy with the overall ‘flat’ looking contrast to it. I know the photograph was taken literally 1 hour after sunrise on a dull, overcast morning and the tree canopy would have made things look dark, but I knew it could be improved and I think I have succeeded.
I opened up the dynamic range more than the original paying attention to the triangle warning markers on the histogram, increasing the whites and decreasing the blacks just enough before they both blow out. In fact I will use this technique from now on in future edits.
They do say you learn something new everyday and even now, nearly 2 years after first using Lightroom, I’m still honing my technique.
