After checking a superb little app called ’The Photographers Ephemeris’, I had planned a visit to Winnats Pass during the second week of May to take advantage of a sunrise which would shine its light directly up the gorge. After checking the weather report one Friday evening and seeing favourable conditions for the next morning, the planned visit was a go, so I set my alarm call for 3:45.
After a case of ‘squeaky bum’ time where I had to quickly find a 24 hour petrol station via Google to fill up because I forgot to do it the night before, I arrived at the top of Winnats Pass just 20 minutes before sun up. This gave me just enough time to find a composition and set up my camera.
This shot was taken 10 minutes after sunrise and even though the sun was obscured by a low bank of cloud, it still gave a lovely colour to the clouds above.
